CRI JhansiDecember 7, 2011: ‘One person can make a difference in the society and church, what we need is the courage to speak up and take a stand in real life.’

Explaining the dimensions of corruption on the theme: “Our Response to corruption in the society and in the Church” Sr. Deepa inspired the participants by examples from daily life where we too are victims of this great evil.

Sr. Deepa of the Congregation of Jesus and the president of local CRI who was the resource person expressed the concern that we need to be free from this evil in order to play a prophetic role in the society.

There are religious and Church personnel who are corrupt and we need to take a stand on the issue and eradicate this menace from our midst.

Through the dynamics of group discussions the members made a list of common acts of corruption that exist around us.

Fr. Joby of the Society of Heralds of Good News, said, ‘we religious are afraid to speak up and others take advantage of the silence so we become prey to this evil.’

Sr. Jacquiline of the Daughters of the Sacred Heart said, “in order to fight against corruption in Jhansi the CRI needs to stand together as a body and raise our voice and speak up.”

At the session of group discussions, each group came up with action plans which were then deliberated upon and then resolved to work on two concrete plans:

– When we go back to our communities to share with our own community members about the sessions thus bring awareness to all. Also to create awareness in the schools and other institutions through debates, assemblies, speeches among teachers and students.

– The local CRI office bearers, along with the major superiors and superiors of the communities will meet and plan out to speak up about issues that concern the collaborative ministry.

The gathering was concluded with a very meaningful Eucharistic celebration followed by a fellowship meal.

Following the action plan of the Regional Annual Assembly the office bearers of Jhansi local CRI organized this one day programme in order to bring awareness among the religious in Jhansi about the common and subtle acts of corruption that happen around us.

This gathering of Jhansi CRI was conducted in Charles’ Borromeo Convent, Judepur on 4th Dec. 2011. Sixty members of the religious communities around came together to reflect and study the issue of corruption and plan our strategies for becoming part of a struggle for a corruption freee India.
