The appointment of the Carmelite of Mary Immaculate (CMI) priest was announced in Rome.

Jagdalpur dioceseVatican City, July 17, 2013: Pope Francis has appointed Fr. Joseph Kollamparampil as the bishop of Jagdalpur diocese.

The appointment of the Carmelite of Mary Immaculate (CMI) priest was announced yesterday in Rome.

He succeeds Bishop Simon Stock Palathara, whose resignation from the same office was accepted by the pope in accordance with the Canon Law.

The bishop-elect was born in Cherpunkal, Kerala, in 1958 and was ordained a priest in 1985.

He holds a doctorate in missiology from the Gregorian Pontifical University, Rome and has served in a number of pastoral roles, including teacher and rector in a house of formation for aspiring vocations.

He was also the rector of the CMI Mission Theologate Samanvaya in Bhopal.

Jagdalpur is a Syro-Malabar diocese in Chhattisgarh with 8,483 Catholics, 112 priests and 451 religious.
