New Delhi, November 7, 2012: The Conference of Religious of India is no doubt the biggest catholic organization in India and perhaps around the world today. It is also the most potential organization in the Indian society at large. Even in the secular society we do not see one comparable to it.

The triennial National Conference of Major Superiors held in Hyderabad not only went on an innovative way but also used the opportunity to renew its leadership composition. They realized that the only difference between a successful organization and others is the leadership and it is time to make things happen.

The Conference consists of 3 Sections; Sisters, Priests and Brothers. The respective Sections elected their Executives to form a National Executive of 30 members. Sisters Section which represents 80% of the religious of India elected Sr. Rita Pinto RSCJ as their President. The Priests Section elected Fr. V.M. Thomas SDB as their President. The Brothers Section elected Bro. Lawrence Abraham CMSF as their President.

Consequently the National Executive of 30 members, who form the Electoral College to choose a National President from among the 3, elected Fr. V.M. Thomas SDB for a term of 3 years or until his term of office ends in his congregation.

Fr. V.M. Thomas sdb, the Provincial of Guwahati Province is not new to national level mission since he functioned as the Secretary of AINACS. An educationist of efficiency and effectiveness he is known for his innovative spirit. CRI can hope to see many things happen under his leadership. Fr. Thomas replaces Bro. K.M. Joseph SG who held this post for a period of 3 years and is now elected to the General Council of his congregation in Rome.

The CRI welcomes Fr. Thomas for this great mission along with the Vice Presidents Sr. Rita Pinto and Bro. Lawrence Abraham along with the rest of the Team.

The others in the Teams are: Sr. Pushpa FMM, Sr. Lilita BS, Sr. Regis SMI, Sr. Lilly AC, Sr. Kusuma SAS. The Brothers include: Bro. Victor Das SH, Bro. Sesu CSC, Bro. Placid CFC, Bro. Bosco FSP. The Priests include: Fr. Sebasti Raj SJ, Fr. Kyriel D’Souza SFX, Fr. Abraham MSFS, Fr. Mathew OIC.At one level the CRI is a Conference of the Major Superiors of India who number 865 as of now. In its organizational level it is an organization of the religious of India who number about one lakh and thirty thousand.

The CRI which is an inter-ritual and supra-ritual body in India is structured at the national level with a permanent Secretariat and Regional as well as Locals across the country. It has the best network in the country to make things happen in all aspects of our life and mission.“What can be done together let us not do alone” is the latest call of CRI to break the glass walls between the congregations and learn the art of working together for greater effectiveness. Innovation is the way and we are on the super highway.
