Pastor Intimidated in Uttar Pradesh

Uttar PradeshOn 10 June in Sonari, Sultanpur, Hindu extremists led by Swaminath Brahman accused Pastor Ram Prakash from the Prakash Healing Society’s church of forceful conversion, and threatened to kill him if he continued to conduct worship meetings in the area.

Pastor Prakash was on his way back home after visiting the house of the village cobbler Raghu on the request of the latter for a prayer when the Hindu extremists stopped him and started uttering obscenities as they denigrated the pastors’ faith and low-caste status.

The extremists threatened to kill Pastor Ram Prakash if he continued with Christian activities in the area and further prohibited him from visiting the village in the future. The extremists also threatened to beat Raghu, burn his house and chase him out of the village if he keeps up his friendship with Pastor Prakash.

The pastor filed a police complaint but no FIR has been registered at press time. In a similar incident on May last year, alleged armed Hindu extremists forcefully entered into the church of Prakash Healing Society and beat up the Christians.
