Church Burnt in Kondagaon district in Chhattisgarh

ChhattisgarhAbout a year ago followers of Christ at village Chhote Salna constructed a kuhcha (temporary) church building with thatched roof. The building was burnt down in the night of 02 April 2013 at about 10 PM. Local believers tried to quench the fire, but could not succeed. Mats, musical instruments and a cot, kept inside the church were all burnt.

The land for the church was donated by a local believer, Mansingh Baghel. This village church is led by Padam Pande, who resides at nearby Budra village and serves with the Believers Church. There are only four believer families in the village, but others from nearby villages visit the church.

EFI correspondent Rev Akhlesh Edgar reports: “Next day, believers were publically verbally abused and threatened by the Hindu fundamentalists of the village, belonging to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. Believers were accused of converting people by fraud and allurement.”

Complaint of the incident has been given in Makdi Police Station, against Lakshman Markam and Roopsingh Baghel of Chhote Salna village, and one unidentified person.

Meeting of the village council was summoned on 4 April 2013. Believers were pressurized to take back the complaint, but they have not done so. Police has not taken any action so far.

Please pray for Pastor Padam Pande and the believers of the area.

Believers Church meeting disrupted in Chhattisgarh

Special Gospel meetings were arranged in Nagra from 25th to 27th March 2013.

A mob instigated by the Hindu fundamentalists disrupted the gospel meeting arranged in Nagra village of District Balrampur Ramanujganj in Chhattisgarh by the Believers Church from 25th to 27th March.

EFI correspondent Rev. Akhlesh Edgar reports: “Led by Sanjeet, Chunnu, Lalmohan, Vedprakash, Devnarayan Singh, Rajaram Kushwaha and Subhash Jaisawal, the crowd accused the organisers and the assembled congregation of coercion and forceful conversion by fraudulent means. The situation took a dramatic turn when Tehsildar Ramsila Lal and Police Inspector Bajilal Singh reached the spot with more policemen and pressurize the organizers to stop the meeting.”

Kindly pray for peace in the area and for the protection of the Christians who are already in minority. Also pray for their freedom to worship with peace.
