Feeling like a failure

I groaned inwardly. How could I have allowed fear to grip my heart yet again? I thought I was done living in fear, yet here I had again failed to walk in God’s peace. Would I never learn?

Our fight against sin can be discouraging. But take heart. Jesus has overcome! Don’t let your failures surprise or immobilize you—instead, let the realization of your sinfulness cause you to run to Jesus once again. Our old sinful self will never get better—but if we belong to Jesus, than He has put His Spirit in our hearts. And Jesus can give us the grace to help us in our time of need (Hebrews 4:16).

Just remember, though, that it’s God’s grace that gives us the victory, not something we muster up; we need to continually depend on Jesus. All of us are—and always will be—failures on our own…but we’re all more than conquerors through Him.

“Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.” Romans 6:12

“Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.” Romans 8:37

“Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.” 1 Timothy 6:12
