Fr. Peter Parapullil takes over as the bishop of Jhansi
Vatican City, October 31 , 2012: Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Fr. Peter Parapullil as the bishop of Jhansi.
His appointment came after Bishop Frederick D’Souza resigned from the post.
The pontiff accepted his resignation and made the new appointment on Oct. 31.
Father Parapullil was born on December 2, 1949 in Perumanoor in Kerala.
He completed his studies in philosophy at the seminary of Alwaye in the state and then went to St. Joseph’s Seminary in Allahabad.
He obtained a post graduate degree in English Literature at the Buldelkhand University and a Diploma in Social and Religious Communication at the Gregorian University in Rome.
He was ordained a priest in 1976 in the parish of Gwalior and incardinated in the Jhansi.
Since 2005 he has been the General Vicar of the diocese of Jhansi.
This year, he was appointed as the dean of Christ the King College in Jhansi.
