Musical Stations of the Cross
Join the Good Friday Walking Pilgrimage
From Sacred Heart Church, Santacruz West
10.30 am onwards to Vakola, Kalina & back

Thousands of Christians will undertake an arduous  walking pilgrimage, in a public gesture of forgiving those responsible for the attacks on Christians, churches and the clergy, which has risen sharply over the past few months. The intention is to offer a Christian response which is in keeping with what Jesus did on the first Good Friday, when he said, ‘Father forgive them for they know not what they do’ about his persecutors. The highlight of the program is the enactment on the streets at various places of Jesus’ torture and crucifixion, which viewed by thousands of bystanders.

This is the 30th year that this annual  and exhausting walk is being undertaken and will begin from Sacred Heart Church in Santacruz West at 10.30 on Good Friday morning and will continue through most part of the day, concluding at St. Charles Convent in Vakola at around 3.00 in the evening. Along the way at various stops over the almost 5 Km route, activists dramatize incidents, believed to have happened when Jesus was killed over 2000 year ago. The pilgrims, hundreds of who are from different parts of Mumbai brave the scorching heat, most of them fasting and praying until the religious service called the Stations of the Cross ends. It features scenes like the arrest of Jesus, Jesus being sentenced by Pontius Pilate, the falls of Jesus, Jesus meeting the women of Jerusalem, his mother and disciples at the cross, Veronica wiping the face of Jesus… And of course His Passion, Suffering & Resurrection.
