Odisha, March 11, 2018: Catholic Charities, social service wing of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Archdiocese in Odisha, plans to provide skill training for drop-out youth of Kandhamal district to empower them.

They will be given English speaking and computer training for six months and given job too. All the expense towards food and accommodation will be taken care by Catholic Charities, Father Dibakar Parichha, the director, told Matters India.

The course is open to youth between 18 to 30 years.

The purpose is to offer training for employment and self-employment for the socio-economic and the marginalized communities of Kandhamal district that witnessed anti-Christian persecution in 2008.

This is a skill for progress program and empowerment process activity, Father Parichha said.

The Kandhamal violence that lasted for nearly four months in 2008 claimed more than 100 lives and rendered more than 50,000 people homeless.

In the aftermath of violence in Kandhamal, employment of youth has been a major issue. In order to address this, Catholic Charities wishes to do its best to help youth, the priest said.
