West Bengal, October 12, 2012: Aliah University of West Bengal, under the Minority Affairs and Madrasah Education Department, will soon become one of the best University of the World, if Chief Minister of the state Mamata Banerjee, who is also holds the minority and madrasah portfolio, is to be believed.

Ms Banerjee said that the infrastructure to this effect is in progress. She was speaking in a minority scholarships, loan and award distribution programme of the Kolkata District at Netaji Indore Stadium on October 10, 2012.

The programme was organized by the West Bengal Minority Development and Finance Corporation.

Trinamul Congress rose to power, with the sizeable shift in minority votes. Her government plans to set up 75 training Centre at Aliah University Campus in Rajarhat-Newtown where already 20 acre land has been given to the university. She also said that Rs 50 crore has been allocated in the state budget for this purpose.

She further announced that 6 ITIs, 6 polytechnic colleges, 83 hostel, 56 marketing complexes to be established exclusively for Muslims in West Bengal.

Ms Banerjee has assured that in areas where 10 percent of population is Urdu speaking, state government will set up Urdu medium schools, as promised in her party’s manifesto.

Besides, her government has allocated Rs 17 crore in 2011-12 budget, for raising boundary walls around graveyards, she added.
Under the Gitanjali Project, 20000 homes would be made for poor Muslims in the state, at a cost one lakh sixty-seven thousand rupees each.

Government of West Bengal has also trying to establish an Employment Bank for Muslims.

The CM encouraged the educated Muslim youths to enroll themselves in the Employment Bank. After registration, they will be facilitated either in the government or private sectors, Ms Banerjee added.

Earlier, she handed over 794 bicycles to the Muslim students, from the Kolkata district. Loan and scholarships to the tune of Rs 50184000 were also distributed to 15,738 students of Kolkata.

In her attempt to empower poor Muslims, she also handed over the keys of ten taxis to Muslim drivers under the cluster loan programme.

CM also announced that the Sheikh community of Muslims from the state has been included in the other backward (OBC) category.
Chairman of the West Bengal Minority Development and Finance Corporation, Abu Ayesh Mandal added that during the previous Left Front Government, minority scholarships were distributed to 4 lakh minority students. But in last one year alone, Mamata Banerjee’s TMC Government has distributed scholarships to 17 lakhs students already. He further announced that in the coming year they aim to hand out scholarships to 22 lakh students.

Shahi Imam of Tipu Sultan Mosque, Maulana Nurur Rahman Barkati, Imam of Nakhoda Mosque Maulana Shafique, Chairman of the state Haj Committee and Member of Parliament Haji Nurul Islam, State Urban development Minister Firhad Hakim, Ex Union Minister and Member of Parliament Sultan Ahmed, Joint Secretary of Minority Affairs and Madrasah Department D P B Islam, among others were also present during the facilitation programme.
