Kolkata, July 7, 2017: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday said minority organisations play a vital role in education and stressed that they are focused on development and not on inciting riots.

“Our minority institutions are playing a vital role. Christian organisations like schools, colleges and universities are giving good lessons. Organisations like the Ramakrishna Mission….they are giving good lessons. There are so many organisations which are not for ‘danga’ (hyooliganism/riots). They are for development. They are for education,” Banerjee said.

Banerjee was addressing a gathering at the inauguration of the first academic session (2017-2018) of the St. Xavier’s University, along with the opening of the Lakshmi & Usha Mittal Foundation Building (Academic Block).

Her comments come in the wake of communal violence that hit areas of West Bengal’s North 24-Parganas.
