PAKISTAN: MUSLIMS JOIN HUMAN CHAINS AROUND CHURCHES IN SHOW OF SOLIDARITY

Muslims have formed human chains with ChristiansPakistan, October 17, 2013: Muslims have formed human chains with Christians around churches in a show of solidarity after the All Saints bombing that claimed the lives of over 100 worshipers.

On 6 October, two weeks after the deadliest-ever attack on Pakistan’s Christian community, 200-300 Muslims and Christians stood hand in hand outside St Anthony’s Church in Lahore. A Muslim leader quoted verses from the Quran that call for tolerance and respect for the beliefs of others.

The gathering followed a similar event outside a church in Karachi the week before. Pakistan For All, an organisation that campaigns against attacks on minorities, used social media to call people to take part in the human chains.

HOLY LAND: HISTORIC CEMETERY VANDALISED IN LATEST ANTI-CHRISTIAN ATTACK

Historic Christian cemetery in Jerusalem has been vandalisedIsrael, October 17, 2013: A historic Christian cemetery in Jerusalem has been vandalised in the latest in a series of attacks on church properties and other Christian sites in the Holy Land.

Stone crosses on the tops of graves at the Cemetery of Mount Zion were knocked off and smashed up. Jewish extremists are suspected of carrying out the attack.

Over the last three years, 17 Christian sites in the Holy Land have been reported vandalized, though the total is thought to be higher as some leaders chose not to report incidents. In the past year, “Jesus is a monkey” has been daubed on a Christian building in Jerusalem.
