China, December 8, 2017: A pastor sympathetic to the Chinese government has betrayed a group of Christians in China, according to the religious freedom organisation, China Aid.

The pastor from the official government body, Three-Self Church, tipped off the police about a gathering of more than 10 Christians who were meeting at a restaurant for a weekly worship and ‘personal sharing’ event. The group included Sunday School teachers from the state-run Shaping Church in Heshan and their children.

Police and religious affairs bureau agents pounced on the night of 19 November as soon as the attendees began to sing.

All attendees who did not have children with them were taken to the public security bureau where they were kept for hours. They were later released with a warning after signing an affidavit.

According to China Aid, the pastor’s motivation for informing the police is unknown.
