Professor T J JosephKerala, October 21, 2013: Popular Front of India activists were arrested earlier in connections with the chopping of hand of Professor T J Joseph accusing him of blasphemy.

The PFI activists were arrested for some communal murders in the state too. In July 2010, the police have seized country made bombs, weapons, CDs and document containing Taliban and Al Qaeda propaganda from PFI activists.

The organisation started in November 2006 as a confederation of National Development Front of Kerala, Manitha Neethi Pasari and Karnataka Forum for Dignity, later expanded their base and become a pan-India organisation. In 2012, Kerala government imposed ban on the Freedom parade conducted by PFI alleging that the activities of the organisation are inimical to the state.

The chargesheet filed by NIA in Narath arms training case is a clear sign of involvement of communal outfits like Popular front of India (PFI) and their political outfit Socialist Democratic Party of India (SDPI) in conducting arms training camps across the state under the pretense of health awareness camps and yoga classes.
