Karnataka: Rabid BJP attacks Christian meeting in Hassan

Hassan DistrictKarnataka, July 29, 2013: Pastor Raju Bhovi is in charge of a House Church in Kelagina Bhovi Colony at Anna Naikanahalli in Arasikere Taluk, Hassan District in Karnataka. He has been catering to the needs of a congregation of about 80 believers during the last 5 years.

On 25-07-2013, Thursday, he organized a prayer meeting in his church and the meeting was being attended by about 40 believers. When the prayer meeting was in full swing, at about 10.30 a.m a group of BJP workers led by one Byresh, forcibly entered the church and created havoc in the church. They started shouting at the pastor and the participants alleging them that they are forcibly converting Hindus to Christianity through all kinds of allurements. When they saw that the food was being prepared for lunch to the participants, they took large quantity of mud from the road and mixed it with the food. Then they also forcibly took away pastor’s Tractor and went to the local police station and lodged a complaint against the pastor falsely alleging that he has been fraudulently converting Hindus to Christianity.

Soon after, the pastor got in touch with the Hassan SP and briefed him about the incident and then went to the Arasikere police station and lodged a complaint against the BJP hoodlums against whom an FIR was registered. The pastor also got an anticipatory bail for himself and got his tractor released after depositing an amount of Rs. 20,000 at the police station. It is also learnt that the concerned Police Inspector supposed to have advised the pastor to build a regular church for the congregation as he is unable to give continued protection to his house church.
