Karnataka, October 2, 2012: Child Development Centre is a human development programme on the lines of the Gospel teaching that every Christian should carry his love to the last and the least in the society. The programme was started by Pastor Devanand Samuel who is an active member of the Karnataka Evangelical Association and this programme is going on during the last 15 years. Its main office is situated at Dodda Gubbi in Karnataka. Simultaneously, he also started a branch of the Centre to extend this service to the orphans and the destitute in addition to the marginalized section of our society in Sampigehally village in Anekal Taluk near Bannerghatta, Bangalore.
This selfless service In Sampigehally is being also carried on during the last 15 years, and they have put up their own building and they also have a church under the KEA. Brother Reuben is in charge of the Centre at Sampigehally and about 300 children visit their Centre after school hours and spend an hour and a half between 4.30 -6.00 pm every evening. Apart from giving free tuition and coaching the children in subjects in which they are weak, they are also taught how to be hygienic and clean since most of the children are very poor and backward and nobody teaches them even the basic needs of human life. The evening ends with a simple meal before the children are sent back to their respective homes. This service has been greatly applauded by one and all in the village during all these years as this was being done to all the village children, regardless of their caste, creed or religion.
However, on 29-9-2012, irked by this service, about 10 Hindu fundamentalists, members of RSS, paid a surprise visit to the Centre and began inspecting all the documents and then complained to the Bannerghatta Police Station alleging that the Centre is involved in the work of spreading Christianity and converting Hindus to Christianity. Inspector Nagesh along with a few constables visited the Centre and took the manager, Brother Reuben, to the police station for further inquiry regarding the Centre and its activities. The police also demanded to know whether they have the necessary permission to conduct their activities, and if so, all the relevant and necessary documents must be produced before them within the next 24 hours.
And, if they fail to do that, an FIR would be filed against the Centre and Brother Reuben would be charge-sheeted and produced before the magistrate.
