New Delhi, May 24, 2016: Even as senior journalist Tavleen Singh proclaimed in  her  article published  in India Express dated on 22 May 2016 that ‘….whipping up fears over Hindutva terrorism is absurd and has a hollow ring…..’ but the Bajrang Dal is out to prove her wrong.

According to a Times of India report of 23rd May 2016 right winger Bajrang Dal has commenced training for its cadres in use of rifles, swords and laathis in Uttar Pradesh. The intent behind the training is to ‘protect Hindus from non-brothers’.

One such training camp has been organised in Ayodhya while similar camps are scheduled in Sultanpur, Gorakhpur, Pilibhit, Noida and Fatehpur.

In light of upcoming 2017 Uttar Pradesh assembly election, this is a significant development.

Bajrang Dal, the youth wing of Vishva Hindu Parishad is neck deep into allegations of rioting and violence against religious minorities of the country. It is also runs vigilante cow-protection programmes under the pretext of which many people have already been killed.

According to a report of The Economic Times published in December 2015 the incidence of communal violence has risen under the Modi regime. In the first 17 months of NDA there have been 1062 incidents of communal violence. The flare up in communal violence figures is more pronounced in BJP ruled states since power changed at the center.

Human Rights group Amnesty international has also stated in its annual international report (February 2016) that ‘India’s Hindu nationalist government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi  had failed to prevent hundreds of incidents of communal violence, usually involving members of the Hindu majority pitted against Muslims or other minorities. Instead, ruling party lawmakers and politicians were fueling religious tensions with provocative speeches and justifications for the violence’.
